Apart from preparing for holiday parties and festivities, we also have to prepare for the increased calories that come with this time of year. With turkey, sweet potato casserole, festive cocktails and more, watching your diet and celebrating can be tricky. To help you stay on track, Harmony Village has some easy tips for healthy celebrating this year. Think of it as an early holiday gift!

1.     Have a holiday season game plan: on days when you don’t have an event you can commit to healthy eating. On these days, also try to make room for a bit of exercise, whether it’s dropping into a yoga class or walking for 30 minutes on a treadmill. If you need a bit of inspiration to stay active, check out our post on staying fit during the winter months.
2.     Potluck like a pro: if you’re invited to an event, bring a healthy appetizer like these Italian turkey meatballs instead of a sugary dessert treat
3.     Limit your alcohol intake: volunteer to be the designated driver or limit yourself to one drink. If you’re hosting, provide non-alcoholic options too, like sparkling water that is flavoured with berries or lemon.
4.     Enjoy in moderation when it comes to seasonal favourites that are a little on the rich and sweet side. It’s okay to watch your portions and have small tastes. Just remember that moderation is key.

We all have food weaknesses. Take care of yourself, set reasonable goals and enjoy the season with friends and family.
