The Olympics are well underway and Canadian athletes are off to their best start ever with an amazing nine medals so far, putting Canada among the top of the medal leaders!

Snowboarder Mark McMorris started the Games off on the right note winning a Bronze medal in the Men’s slopestyle despite having some broken ribs. Canadians then cheered on Montreal-born sisters Justine and Chloé Dufour-Lapointe as they took to the podium to accept Gold and Silver medals in women’s moguls. What a touching moment!

We also watched our figure skating team take on the world, proving the power of teamwork by bringing home the Silver. Earlier this week, we won our fifth medal when Charles Hamlin took the top spot in the men’s 1,500 metre speed skating, followed by Alex Bilodeau and Mikaël Kingsbury winning Gold and Silver in men’s moguls. Finally, on Tuesday, Dara Howell took home Gold while Kim Lamarre took Bronze in ladies’ ski slopestyle.

Our athletes also made us proud beyond the podium. Canadian ski coach Justin Wadsworth showed exactly what the Olympics is all about when he came to the rescue of a Russian cross-country skier who was struggling to finish his race on a broken a ski. Justin sprung into action from the sidelines and attached a new ski, an example of sportsmanship that earned world-wide admiration.

Coming up this week is the Women and Men’s hockey showdowns and more from men’s speed skating. We know we’ll be watching and rooting for our athletes.

Go Canada Go!
