In addition to ushering in spring, March is Fraud Month, a time dedicated to educating consumers on the importance of Fraud Prevention. Protect yourself with these three tips from the help the team at Harmony Village:

1. It seems like a no-brainer but avoid sharing personal information and details. These harmless situations happen more often than you think. Beware of random requests for your date of birth, Social Insurance Number (SIN), address, etc. Do not give out personal information over the phone, through email or over the Internet – and that includes social media -- unless you initiated the contact and know who you're dealing with.

2. Review your monthly banking statements and watch for suspicious transactions on your credit card and financial account statements. If you bank online, you can monitor transactions even more regularly.

3. Ensure that all personal and financial documents are carefully discarded and preferably shredded. Scammers often only need one small piece of information in order to take advantage of someone.

Most importantly, contact the authorities if you suspect you are a victim of fraud, along with your bank or credit card provider.

From the entire Harmony Village team, we wish you a safe and FRAUD-LESS month!
