A new year brings new hopes, goals and plans. While many of us make New Year’s resolutions, it can often be difficult and even a bit daunting to stick to them. We have some helpful tips to help ensure you achieve your 2014 goals.

1. Be Realistic – While you may want to make some big life changes, it’s important to ensure your resolution goals can be achieved with a level of hard work that’s reasonable for your lifestyle. For example, if you want to get into better physical shape, try working out once the first week, and then up your workout or your routine in the following weeks until you get into a schedule that works for your lifestyle.

2. Make a schedule – Whether fitness, financial or personal goals, it’s important to set a schedule and stick to it. This will help you to progress over the course of a longer period, rather than feeling overwhelmed and trying to catch up later in the year.

3. Make your goal public – When you’ve told people in your life about your goal, it will work to motivate you and make you feel accountable to reach what you set out to do. If you aren’t comfortable sharing a resolution with a large group, share a few close family members or friends who will be supportive or maybe even partner with you to set the same goal.
