With the recent havoc caused by ‘Old Man Winter,’ many Ontarians found themselves coping with damage to their homes from ice storms and fallen tree limbs. A big question being asked is: who will pay for the damage to my home and yard?
According to a recent article released by Canadian Real Estate Wealth Magazine, the Insurance Bureau of Canada recommends property owners check their policies as soon as possible. These uncontrollable scenarios caused by Mother Nature can be stressful. According to the article, “damage to homes from falling trees or ice is generally covered by a homeowner’s policy, including damage to contents when water or snow enters through opening caused by high winds.”
To minimize stress and avoidable costs, look into the issue right away. In situations like these, a plan of action is important and getting in touch with your insurance provider to clarify your coverage is the best first step.
We hope you’re staying warm during this frigid January and just remember, the days are getting longer and we’re less than three months away from spring! [Photo source]
