The holidays are about spending time with the ones you love and for many that means the opportunity to spend quality time with kids and grandkids. Here are some great activities to enjoy with the little ones at home and in the community.

In the Kitchen

Kids love baking – and eating — tasty treats, especially during the holidays. Choose a recipe like shortbread cookies so younger children can help out by decorating with sprinkles or dusting with powdered sugar. Try this simple recipe, it requires only four ingredients!

Making your own gingerbread house is another kid-friendly holiday activity. Kits and decorations are available at the Barrie Bulk Barn, as well as local grocery stores. For the designs, check out Martha Stewart’s post here for inspiration.

Outside

When the snow arrives, make our own personal playground. From building snow creatures to tobogganing to ice skating, these are some of our favourite winter activities. Finish your outing off with a cup of hot chocolate.

In Town

If you’re in Barrie, these are some of our favourite places to cozy up with friends of family. Visit Simply Tea and Chocolate on Dunlop Street. Specializing in premium teas and handcrafted chocolates, this shop/cafe also serves lunch. The Barrie Public Library is another favourite hangout, offering books for all ages. Read them there or take them home to enjoy.

At Harmony Village we love the holidays and sharing our favourite things to do and food to eat. Keep checking back with us as we continue to spread holiday cheer all month long.
