Ladies and gentlemen, Thanksgiving is upon us! While it’s true that this holiday is very much about tradition, this year Harmony Village encourages you to add something new and delicious to your Thanksgiving ritual.

Maple Syrup Cranberry Sauce

Rather than the typical cranberry sauce from a jar, offer your guests a chance to warm up their tastebuds with this Maple Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce recipe (see photo above). With Canadian maple syrup and warm cinnamon to complement the fresh cranberries, it’ll have you wondering why you didn’t make your own cranberry sauce earlier.

Apple Pie Cookies

Although there’s no denying that pumpkin pie is the most coveted Thanksgiving dessert, we recommend surprising guests with this quick and delicious recipe for Apple Pie Cookies. The decorative presentation and simplicity makes them a delicious dessert option, especially for those who may be too full for a piece of pie. Check out flyers for local grocers such as Metro, Zehrs, Food Basics and Sobeys online for Thanksgiving specials!

DIY Decor

Another great way to update your Thanksgiving is with festive décor. There are a lot of quick, easy tricks that you can do yourself.

For a simple centerpiece, stack unique-looking gourds in hurricane vases. Also try updating your candles by mounting them on a bed of corn kernels or acorns in their candle holders or decorating them with festive leaves and twine. Use silk leaves, or dip the real ones in wax to keep them from drying out. If do-it-yourself isn’t your thing, stop by English and Miller on Dunlop St. in Barrie for plenty of seasonal inspiration!

Happy Thanksgiving! Tell us what your favourite Thanksgiving tradition is on Facebook and don't forget to visit our website for more info on living in Harmony.
